Central Europe's private equity market is going strong

2017 is shaping up to be a strong year for the CEE private equity industry. Industry leaders showed optimism during CEE M&A and Private Equity Forum, organized by Mergermarket and Unquote on 26th & 27th September in Warsaw.

2017 is expected to be a record year for investment with recent spectacular transactions such as Allegro, Żabka and Profi. A couple of very strong exits - Żabka, Profi, Alpha Medical, Dino - will undoubtedly bring CEE divestment to a very high level. September brought a record in fundraising - with Abris Capital Partners and Enterprise Investors raising 1 bn EUR for their latest funds. A couple of mid-market PE funds are currently in the process of fundraising, some of them already held first closings for their funds.

Consumer-related industries are expected to remain a hot sector for PE investors. With growing consumption and good economic prospects this sector naturally attract investors attention.. Export related manufacturing is also very attractive, so are business and financial services, logistics and e-commerce, all offering very high growth potential. Wave of succession, particularly seen in more mature markets such as Poland, enhances investment opportunities.

VC sector in the region shows reasonable potential to grow. Although regional VC funds have not yet gone through the whole investment process, a handful of dragon companies are seen on the market and more of them are expected to appear in the future.
