Abris acquired Scanmed in 2021 with a plan to build a national healthcare champion. The key building blocks of the strategy were an ambitious buy-and-build programme combined with improving the quality of the services provided and increasing their variety and availability for patients.
Under Abris’s ownership, Scanmed completed four add-on acquisitions, expanded into new therapeutic areas, increased the scale of multi-profile hospitals and enhanced the quality of medical services. This enabled the company to develop effective model of cooperation between the NFZ, local communities and a privately owned operator in Poland’s healthcare sector.
The value creation strategy implemented during Abris’s three-year investment and the accompanying ESG initiatives positioned Scanmed as a leading provider of diversified range of high-quality inpatient healthcare services in Poland.
The company doubled its scale and achieved 5x EBITDA growth through improved operational efficiency and by combining organic growth with market consolidation. At the time of exit, Scanmed operated 40 facilities across the country, including seven hospitals and 20 medical centres, and employed over 1,300 physicians.
Scanmed was sold in 2024 to American Heart of Poland Group backed by Gruppo San Donato, the leading Italian hospital group.
